Why I Love What Never Lasts

I’m in love with the things that are fleeting. The smiles that pass quickly between strangers, toenail polish that never stays.

Sometimes I wonder if beginnings have endings, or if endings are only beginnings of something else.
I love the first breath of morning, slipping in and out of sleep.
I love when eyes open, slowly, still afraid.

The things that don’t last are the most powerful: skipping heartbeats, sweaty palms.
The things that stay become comfortable, easy.
You forget the beauty of something when its always present.
You only recognize consistency in change.
