The Pursuit

don't chase people quote

Everyone says that you should just go after what you want, those who are meant to be in your life will find their way to you. Self-improvement focuses on the idea that you need to pursue your own dreams first, not people.

But I’ve been thinking, if everyone’s out pursuing their dreams then no one will be pursuing each other. So how are you going to end up with the person that’s meant to be in your life, if everyone’s focusing only on themselves?

If everyone’s chasing their own dreams, then no one will be trying to find love, they’ll just be waiting for it to show up.

Well, I think I’m coming to understand this mess a little more. Life is about the pursuit, the pursuit of all things good and happy. One has to pursue the things he/she wants, whether that’s a career or a passion, or even a person. No, you should never lose yourself chasing someone else. But you should always say what you feel and go after what you want. That way you can never be sad when you’re lonely, because you’ve gone after everything you’ve believed in.

So what does that mean? It means that in life you shouldn’t be passive. The pursuit is about going after everything you want. You shouldn’t change your focus, your end goal, chasing after a person. Not everything works the way you want it to, which is hard to take sometimes. Sometimes you can chase a person all you want, hope to fit them into your life, and they just won’t. Maybe that’s because it’s not the right time. So you have to continue on, continue being you, continue loving. And as long as you focus on the pursuit, things will fall into place. But not because things will just happen, it will be because you make them happen.

So never leave words unsaid, never lie about feelings. Be true and honest and go after what you feel. Sometimes it won’t make sense, sometimes it’ll hurt. But that’s the point isn’t it? It’s the experience; it’s the pursuit.

  1. “Destiny is not always preordained. Life is about making choices. Our lives are the sum of all the choices we make, the bridges we cross, and the ones we burn. Our souls cast long shadows over many people, even after we are gone. Fate, luck, and providence are the consequence of our freedom of choice, not the determinants. When justice is served by following our principles, making good decisions brings us inner peace.”
