Don’t Think Just Write Challenge

Over and over again, I’ve heard the same advice. To be a writer, you have to write. It sounds simple. And it is simple, really. Like anything in life, if you want to be good at it, you have to actually do it. Practice it. Be religious about it.
I’ve realized that when I’m immersed in writing, when I shut off the rest of my obligations and to-do lists, when I shy away from people for just a little while, I create. I create beautiful things that I read later and go, ‘Woah, did I really write that?’ It’s encouraging. And exciting. And makes me realize that this really is what I want to do with my life.
So I’ve decided to take on a challenge. I want to write something every single day. Maybe not a story or poem everyday, but something, anything. And an even bigger challenge—I’m not going to worry how good it is. That’s the beautiful thing about writing, and especially blogging—it’s instant. And so I’m just going to post drafts, ideas, thoughts. Imperfect, all of it. Well, I’m sure I’ll throw in some things I actually work pretty hard on. But the idea is to just write and not feel like I have to be something great all the time. Just write for writing’s sake. No restrictions, especially self-imposed ones. I’m calling it the ‘Don’t Think Just Write’ challenge. Join me if you’d like!
