This Is Me, Writing About Boys

To the one from middle school with the braces, you taught me how not to kiss.

To the one who was my date for two high school Homecomings and three Sadie Hawkins dances, you taught me to laugh.

To the one who could play the drums, you taught me that I was beautiful, even though it turned out you liked guys more than you would ever like me.

To the one at the corner store with the dark mustache, you taught me that my mother has big dreams for my future husband, unfortunately for you, her plans include way more of you than mine ever will.

To the one with the baseball cap, who handles his emotions like he handles the game, you taught me to never quit.

To the short one who wrestles, you taught me to never give out my number to strangers, even if they’re nice strangers.

And to the one I haven’t met yet, I want to say that you’ll be the one to teach me to love again, but who knows? There’s a few on this list who sure have a habit of coming around and stealing my heart back. But luckily for you, it’s only a few.
