One of the craziest things I’ve learned in life is that we have to be okay with the ‘I don’t knows.’ We have to accept that there are things we won’t understand, won’t have figured out. And that’s okay.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could say we’ve figured it all out? That, without a doubt, we know who we are and where we’re headed? At any age—eighteen, twenty-four, forty-five, sixty-three—somehow the pieces would fall together and we would just have the answers to those questions looming over our heads?

I love knowing, but lately, I’ve been embracing the ‘I don’t knows’ thrown my way.

When you aren’t worried so much about the ‘what ifs’ or the next steps, life gives you surprises, lessons, blessings, and unexpected happiness in the strangest of places. And sometimes that’s way more comforting then searching and ending empty-handed.

But the more I think about being lost, the more I realize we’re all in this together.

There isn’t anyone, I mean anyone, who knows. Knows what will happen next, knows the next move, knows the next job or relationship or change that will come their way. That’s terrifying, but it’s beautiful when you realize you’re never alone.

So we don’t always know, but maybe we can embrace that.
