Our First Fight

our first fight underneath the dark window

Tonight is our first fight
and you are filled
with unsaid words
biting at the corners of your mouth
as you stand firm and stiff, lips pursed.

Tonight, words drip from my tongue
like sap from the bark of a tree
hot and liquid and angry.

Maybe my voice
and your silence
have finally met their match.

Maybe this, us,
was never meant to be.

Maybe I have always loved
a little too loudly.

But I will never apologize
For that.
