Unremembering You

Everything is quiet now—
save the beating of my heart,
and the whisper of words I try to unremember,
I love yous like broken records in my head.
Your voice—
a scratch in the vinyl
yet I can’t stop playing the track
and it skips and it skips
and it skips
a cycle—
my dreams, our laughs.
I hear you—
the melody I can’t unsing
but I close my eyes
hum louder
until I drown out the sound of you
with silence.

Everything is quiet now—
and I am not afraid.
