Sometimes I feel like I’m on this relentless, dead-end search for perfection. I wake up every morning and from the moment my eyes open, I’m thinking about all that’s left to do. At night, I fall into bed, exhausted and frustrated I didn’t finish all I had planned (even though I can fully acknowledge that the place I’m desiring to be isn’t even achievable). I’m tired, but always running, always chasing, always looking to do and be more more more. But despite my best efforts, I’m forever falling short.
I’m human. And sometimes this label feels like a punishment, like I’ll never be good enough. I fight, I shove, I work, I hustle, and yet, I’m never quite there. The dream is always a little further out of reach.
But in moments like this, where I start to beat myself up for silly things, when I think about all I have left instead of all that I’ve done, when I’m giving up before I even begin—I remember that success and happiness in this life is not dependent upon my human strength.
It’s not about how hard I can push or how much I can add to my plate. It’s not about what I can do or cross off my list, or how fast I can run. It’s not about my human shortcomings, mistakes, or even failures.
It’s about the Father who lives within me. And how, in Him, I can do all things.
See, we’ll forever fall short when we compare ourselves to the things of this world. If we’re measuring our success upon money, riches, or all that’s temporary, we’ll forget the beauty of an everlasting life promised to us after this world ends. If we’re calculating our worthiness based on the things we’ve done, we’ll be adding more and more and more to our to-do lists until we’re so weighed down we can hardly stand.
If we measure our identity by ‘things’ rather than truths, we’ll fail to see the glory of our Father all around us, within us.
See, as humans we fail and fall short. But as daughters and sons of the King, we rise.
There is an extraordinary God that lives within each of us—in me, in you. There is a Father who, in every moment, only longs to see us grow and conquer. He knows the beatings of our heart. He understands the lonely callings of our mind. When we feel anxious and tired, He comes to our rescue. When we’re empty and lost, He paves our way.
If you’re like me and forever running in circles, trying to catch up or stay ahead, know that there is nothing you can do or say that will make you be less in your Father’s eyes. To Him, and in Him, you are forever and always enough.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like I have far too many things I’m wishing or hoping for, and not enough energy to get there. I get excited about the places I’ll one day be, but I dizzy myself in circles trying to achieve goals that I can’t possibly reach on my own. I close my eyes and envision where I want to be, but get overwhelmed at the roadblocks in the way.
That’s where God comes in.
Our God is extraordinary. He can win battles and conquer obstacles. He can fight demons and drown out any evil. He can move mountains and answer prayers. And He lives within us. This love, this force beats within our own hearts.
If you find yourself exhausted by the daily monotony of this life, frustrated with where you are or how little you have done, broken by pain that’s happened to or around you—close your eyes, lift your head, breathe deeply and center yourself on the truth. There is a God within you beyond all compare. And in His love, in His grace, you can do, be, conquer, and reach all that is meant to be yours.
