I Hope You Chase What Makes Your Heart Burn

happy girl learning to chase what makes your heart burn

There is a dream within you. And maybe you’ve tried to quiet it. Maybe you’ve busied yourself with other plans, other things. Maybe you’ve listened and thought your mind was playing tricks on you, telling you that you were being ridiculous for believing in something so big.

Maybe you’ve gone after that dream for a moment, but then got distracted with everyday life. Maybe you had to get a job, make a living, be there for someone who needed you and you didn’t/don’t have the freedom, nor the time to spend selfishly.

Maybe you’ve learned long ago to just go with the flow rather than chase anything greater—it’s just too complicated. Maybe you’re filled with excuses, every reason in the book why you don’t deserve, and can’t go after the things that make you feel alive.

But these are lies born of fear.

Sure, your life circumstances can (and might have) played a role. Sure, maybe you were struggling financially in the past and had to play it safe for a little while. Sure, maybe you have other responsibilities and people you must put first, so what you’ve wanted has taken a back seat.

But chasing what makes your heart burn does not make you selfish; it makes you brave.

There are few things in life that truly matter—surrounding ourselves with people we love, giving what we can to the world, and pouring ourselves into the lives and people and things around us. But sometimes we get so wrapped up in our day-to-day lives that we forget the importance of doing, following, chasing, and believing in those things.

We fall into habits, into routines, and neglect the pounding of our own hearts. Neglect the importance of being who we are, of doing what matters, of finding what we’re passionate about and making time for those things, regardless of the pieces of life standing in the way.

Pursuing what makes your heart burn is not about abandoning the realities of your life. But it is about making intentional time for things that matter.

You don’t have to neglect the responsibilities you have, but you don’t have to live your days being a slave either. You don’t have to wake up wishing you could do or be something else.

You could begin right now—setting aside time to do things that make you passionate, being loyal and dedicated to those dreams you’ve pushed aside for so long.

Life is too short to wander through your days without a sense of excitement, without purpose, without feeling, in your heart, that you’re on the right track.

So I hope you stop worrying so much about what you have to do, or what you think you should do, and focus on all that you have the potential to become. I hope you quit moving through your days on autopilot and start believing those wild dreams beating in your chest.

I hope you take time to pursue you, to chase what makes your heart burn. To move forward, and not waste any more time.
