“Love Can Make a Difference” – Advanced to the IPPC Level, District 32 Level, State of Illinois Level

I can make

a difference

.

I can make a difference if I close my eyes;

if I see the world with a new face.

I can make a difference if I give instead of get;

if I make a change in the world of someone else.

I can make a difference if I take a deep breath;

if I think before reacting.

I can make a difference if I forgive and forget;

if I throw away my grudges and move on.

I can make a difference if I laugh;

if I make light of a tough situation.

I can make a difference if I hold someone’s hand;

if I comfort them in a time of need.

I can make a difference if I reach out;

if I forget my selfish thoughts.

I can make a difference if I listen;

if I open my heart to the words of others.

I can make a difference if I think;

if I take time to make the right choices.

I can make a difference if I slow down;

if I never take anything for granted.

I can make a difference if I teach;

if I show someone else how they are blessed.

I can make a difference if I share;

if I give someone else a part of my world.

I can make a difference if I let go;

if I don’t worry about the little things.

I can make a difference if I appreciate what I’m given;

if I am thankful for all my life has to offer.

I can make a difference if I stay true to myself;

if I become the person I want to be.

I can make a difference if I smile;

if I show someone else how wonderful life can be.

I can make a difference if I care;

if I open my eyes to life.

I can make a difference if I love;

if I combine my heart with someone else’s.

I can make a difference;

if I live my life the way I’m meant to live it.

Love,

can make a

difference.

You reach for my hand as we sit together on the hill.

The sky is dark, the sun has set.

The air is cold all around me, my breath makes a cloud.

The world is still; and I am here with you.

A frost covers the grass, my jeans are cold.

My hair falls around my neck, hidden under my hood.

A light snow falls on my eyelashes.

Your fingertips graze my leg.

You reach for my hand; cold fingertips touch cold fingertips.

You pull me closer.

Your other arm around my waist.

You look down into my eyes and you smile.

“I love you.” You whisper into my ear.

I sit on the edge of the driveway tears falling from my face.

A fight that happened inside, has left me broken.

The air is sticky, my hair sticks to my tears.

I’m sitting on my hands, rocking back and forth.

Tentative at first, you walk slowly to the end of the drive.

Cars move past; but time is still.

You step down and sit next to me.

You pull me onto your lap and look into my eyes.

You hold me there, and nothing else matters.

Your strong arms surround me.

You are my father and you support me.

You stare into my eyes.

“I love you.” You say strongly. “Don’t you ever forget.”

The last resounding note leaves an echo.

Applause erupts in the tiny hall.

I stand before the crowd, and a proud smile covers my face.

The melody is left in the air, and I’m happy.

I love to sing, and I am confident here.

I am comfortable.

My eyes shine with praise.

I step off the stage and there you are.

Your motherly hug is waiting for me.

With tearful eyes, you smile down at me.

“I’m so proud of you.” You say kindly. “I love you.”

I pick you up from the ground.

Wiping away the blood from your skinned knee.

I brush your tears away.

And squeeze your small hand in mine.

You take a deep breath and face the world again.

A new found strength.

What was once a crisis, isn’t so bad anymore.

You turn to me again, and you give me a big smile.
“I love you sissy.” you cry.

The “I love you”, is whispered when most necessary.

Love is in the world at every moment.

At a time of affection.

A moment of pain.

A step of glory.

A reaching out to help.

This world is never perfect; it’s often quite broken.

But I can make a difference in this world,

If I have love in my life.

If I open up my heart to someone else.

If I feel someone else’s pain as my own.

If I show someone that two people can become unified,

Then I can make a difference.

The love can make a difference.
